Briden offers healthy food for the outdoors, safety plans for Canadians

Today’s outdoor enthusiasts are reuniting with Nature. And they want the best nutritional foods for their journeys. Family-run, Alberta-based Briden Solutions has you covered, literally from the inside out. Their Peak Refuel line of ready to serve meals is second to none. Just looking at the packaging, they rival any quality retail product. This is by no means “emergency rations” or “camp food” in the typical sense. This is food you can serve your family at the cottage at end of a busy day.

The space we leave behind contains ‘us’

Our time here is limited – we all know that. But we ignore it, hide from it, even believe we’ll go on forever. But the truth hurts. If you’ve ever had a handful of fine beach sand and let it run through your fingers, you have an analogy of our lives. We are one of those grains. Millions slip through our fingers, ending up back where they came from, where they belong. We can mold them, step on them, wet them down but they don’t change, break or disintegrate. They simply are.

Local woman needs the ‘gift of life’

A local woman is struggling with a medical condition that could cut her life short. And she’s in need of a kidney transplant. While Jodie Wilson is “holding her own,” her kidney function is down to roughly 15% and she’s taking it day by day. In the past year or so, she’s had two potential donors but in the end, they didn’t work out. She’s limited to just two litres of fluid per day and her appetite is low. She’s had to leave her job at Tru Country in Schomberg due to her condition.

King is actively advancing its “Age Friendly Community Action Plan.” The Township was recently honoured with Aging-Friendly Community Award at the recent Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference. This designation highlights the Township’s commitment to creating accessible, inclusive spaces and programming that supports independent, active living for older adults. It marks an important milestone in the 2023–2026 Corporate Strategic Plan and King’s commitment to developing the Age-Friendly Action Plan, ensuring residents can continue to age in place (grow older at home) with dignity.

Fees, charges, red tape tangle us all

It’s been suggested that taxpayers shouldn’t have to wait in line or on hold, simply to untangle bureaucratic red tape. And we shouldn’t have to pay for it, either. While technology has opened up avenues to contact various officials and agencies, I think there’s some unseen noodle-like network where individual requests go to die.

Township working hard to maintain quality drinking water

King is maintaining a clean record in providing quality drinking water to its residents. Council received the 2025 Drinking Water Annual Summary Report from staff, that noted there were zero Adverse Water Quality Incidents in 2025. The Township received re-accreditation as an operating authority, under the Drinking Water Quality Management Standard.

Residents join forces, sign petition, to fight proposal at OLT

Citizens are banding together to fight a proposed condo development in Schomberg. The applicants, Marcor Realty Ltd., have taken their proposal for a six-storey condo building on Main Street in Schomberg to the Ontario Land Tribunal. They appealed on the basis of a lack of timely decision on the part of King Township. A petition was recreated and organizers are hoping for 1,500 signatures before sending to the OLT. In the name of “saving our historic Schomberg Main Street,” residents stress the village is “more than a place on a map.

NIXY parka shields you from the elements

Enjoying the outdoors means defying Mother Nature. It means operating at your peak, no matter what the weather throws at you. While consumers are given a huge variety of outer wear for the warmer months, the winter presents a host of challenges.
