A baseball lifer, Rice has been promoted to “Manager for a Day” by the Minnesota Twins for his ongoing work with the Little League Disaster Relief Fund Charity. The US-based organization rebuilds ball diamonds that have been destroyed by natural or human disasters.

King’s U10AA Rebellion crowned tournament champs

Congratulations to King Township Minor Hockey Association, who organized the largest tournament of its storied history this past weekend Jan. 30, 31 & Feb. 1. The tournament spanned over 9 ice pads throughout King Township and the GTA, it included 78 teams throughout Ontario in the U10AA-U18AA age groups and over 500 hours of game time.

Kaden Koutroulides fired two goals and George Cote turned aside 34 of 35 shots to lead the Lindsay Muskies to a 5-1 win over the slumping King Junior A Rebellion on Sunday afternoon at the Zancor Centre. Koutroulides credited Cote’s stellar play for his club’s big road win: “He’s an unbelievable goalie for us. Best pickup we made as a team this year. It’s on us that he didn’t get the shutout. He made big saves for us all game.”

McManus called the assembly to order with a stirring version of “Scotland the Brave” and piped the intrepid players on to the course to take their places at the eighteen Scramble Shotgun tee blocks.

Rebellion U9 captures York-Simcoe title

For the 2024/2025 season the U9MD King Rebellion went undefeated during the regular season and playoffs, with the lowest GAA average in all of York Simcoe Minor Hockey League. They took to the ice on April 5 at the new Zancor Centre for their Championship game against the Barrie Colts White. With a packed house of fans cheering them on, they were victorious, winning the game 6-3 for the first-ever York-Simcoe U9MD Tier 1 Championship for the King Rebellion.
