he grand opening of Firehouse Subs in Nobleton attracted an impressive array of dignitaries, wellwishers, and a cross-section of firefighters on Saturday afternoon. Two ceremonies took place at the 12840 Highway 27 location.

MLSE’s Dave Haggith enshrined in the KCSS Case of Distinction

Dave Haggith, Senior Vice President of Communications at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, was inducted into the King City Secondary School Case of Distinction on Saturday morning. He was the 73rd distinguished KCSS grad to be honored. Mike “Pinball” Clemons exuded warmth and charisma during his engaging introduction of Haggith. Clemons described his long-time MLSE colleague as “an accomplished man, Argos fan, and friend. He’s organized some of the biggest events, and worked with so many of the greats – Ali, Nicklaus, Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Vince Carter.”

Work on Hambly House set to begin

Long overdue conservation work on the historic Hambly House in Nobleton is set to begin. The owner of the Hambly House, located at 6012 King Road, plans to undertake conservation work on the structure, which requires a heritage permit for approval. The current designation bylaw (By-law 82-144) is outdated and lacks a statement of cultural heritage value and a list of heritage attributes, which are required under the Ontario Heritage Act, as per the 2005 amendments.

King’s Marissa Forte is Aurora’s 2025 Teen Idol

Marissa Forte, a Grade 11 student at King City Secondary School, was crowned Aurora’s 2025 Teen Idol after a stellar performance at the Aurora Performing Arts Festival recently. Held at the Aurora Town Square Performance Hall and co-hosted by the Town of Aurora and Marquee Theatrical Productions, the Performing Arts Festival saw youth contestants from kindergarten students through Grade 12, face off in a singing, dancing, and dramatic categories, with the winner of the Senior Vocal Category winning Teen Idol Honours.

Pilot error cause of fatal aircraft crash in 2024

The cause of the plane crash that killed a King family last year was pilot error. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), “the pilot’s failure to ensure the proper placement of the fuel selector during the approach and landing … resulted in fuel starvation and a subsequent total loss of engine power.”
