Everyone needs a smile, especially when driving these days. A King City resident loves riding motorcycles and enjoys cruising the open road. That many not sound special. But what is, is that he does in costume. “To make things interesting, I have a selection of costumes I’ll throw on just make things entertaining. Brings a smile to people’s faces and I’ve been told so many times that ‘You made my day,’” said the man, who goes by MotoBrew. “I love it! If i can ride around having the time of my life and all at the same time make some strangers’ days, then I consider it a win.”

Deliberate fire costs taxpayers thousands

A deliberately set fire in one of the washrooms at Memorial Park will cost the Township thousands in tax dollars. On June 2 around 5 p.m., a fire was deliberately set in one of the washrooms at Memorial Park in King City. This placed this washroom out of service until further notice. Damage is pegged between $5,000 and $10,000.

Campbell’s Cross Farm marks its 5th anniversary this year, attracting visitors from far and wide to one of the largest sunflower farms in the GTA. YRDSB appoints Bill Cober as new director of education

The York Region District School Board of Trustees appointed Bill Cober as the next Director of Education effective Aug. 1. Cober brings nearly 30 years of experience in public education in York Region, and has extensive educational leadership experience, as well as experience in municipal government. Bill has strengths in relationship building, strategic decision making and building equitable and inclusive organizations. He has a collaborative and strategic approach to leadership and a passionate belief in the capacity and potential of all students.

Union Masonic Lodge’s applauds King community for aiding 163 Ukrainian refugee families

Piper Bruce Etherington led multiple processions of dignitaries, charitable champions, selfless citizens, and grateful Ukrainian families into the comfy confines of Union Masonic Lodge 118 in downtown Schomberg on a recent Tuesday night. The skirl of the pipes set both a mournful and triumphant tone to the evening that acknowledged the atrocities committed by Russian forces during their invasion of the Ukraine, but also celebrated the dozens of King Township and surrounding area citizens who have risen to the charitable challenges of assisting 163 Ukrainian refugee families in their hour of need.

Board’s decision a ‘slap in the face’ to every Catholic student, says student trustee

A York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) decision this week to formally reject calls to raise the Progress Pride Flag at its Aurora headquarters is a “slap in the face to every student at the YCDSB,” says student trustee Jonah James. In a 6-4 vote, YCDSB trustees nixed a motion from James and fellow student trustee Anthea Peta-Dragos to raise the flag at the Catholic Education Centre (CEC) on Bloomington Road for the month of June.

Caledon will become an independent municipality by 2025

Caledon, Brampton, and Mississauga will no longer form the Region of Peel. At a press conference held on May 18, Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Steve Clark announced Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservative government was tabling legislation to dissolve the Region of Peel. The move came just days after Ford said he was “always for an independent Mississauga” at a press conference held there.

Citizens generally pleased with King Township, survey shows

A survey of residents shows a high level of satisfaction with the municipality. The 2023 Citizen Survey was conducted in February and 95% of residents agreed the quality of life in King is good. This, staff noted, is 2% higher than the national municipal standard. Nine in 10 agree that King is a great place to raise a family and people feel safe.
