Giovannina Colalillo always wanted to be an artist, even as a young child. Born and raised in Toronto to creative parents who migrated from Italy, she moved to Schomberg 20 years ago with her husband and first child. “I was pregnant with my daughter at the time, and we wanted to raise our family in this quaint tight-knit community,” said Colalillo, a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design who majored in illustration and art.

The York Region District School Board is ready to provide a safe learning environment for students returning to school. The board is offering a staggered start for elementary and secondary students to assist students and staff in the return to school during the COVID-19 pandemic. This will allow students to practice and understand new health and safety practices in smaller groups.
King is going all out in helping internet service providers reach every corner of the township. Council okayed staff recommendations to provide in-kind support to YorkNet and other providers who are applying for the Improving Connecting in Ontario (ICON) program.
It’s not every day a public golf course hosts a prestigious event like the PGA of Ontario. It is, in fact, usually meant for membership golf courses to take the reins. It’s not for precedence or anything like that. It’s easier to relay to the club’s cohort, their course will be hosting a prestigious event. Who doesn’t like that kind of stuff, knowing your course is up for hosting pro golfers?
King has reached a pivotal point in its history. Council gave the green light to tweaks by York Region to its long-awaited Official Plan. With a couple of site-specific additions, the Our King planning document will be in the hands of York Region, awaiting final approval this fall.

While the municipal offices are closed to the public, King Township staff are busy serving residents. The Municipal Centre has always been available for staff to use during the pandemic. However, officials encouraged staff to work remotely as much as possible.
