The record snowfall last week compounded an Ontario-wide salt shortage, caused by high demand from frequent snowstorms and supply disruptions at major mines. King entered the winter maintenance season prepared, with their material storage facility filled to capacity. To date, the Township has used approximately 4,700 tonnes of sand and salt over its network road and sidewalk network.
Last week’s snowstorm kept many residents at home, and those who ventured out experience some of the worst conditions in years. The estimated 20-centimeter accumulation had King roads crews working day and night to clear streets and highways. The Township declared a Significant Weather Event, and urged motorists to exercise caution if venturing out.

Kaden Koutroulides fired two goals and George Cote turned aside 34 of 35 shots to lead the Lindsay Muskies to a 5-1 win over the slumping King Junior A Rebellion on Sunday afternoon at the Zancor Centre. Koutroulides credited Cote’s stellar play for his club’s big road win: “He’s an unbelievable goalie for us. Best pickup we made as a team this year. It’s on us that he didn’t get the shutout. He made big saves for us all game.”
King residents will have the option of voting via the internet, in this year’s municipal election. Council opted to pursue staff recommendations that combine the use of Internet Voting, in addition to the alternative voting methods approved at its meeting of March being use of paper ballots with optical scan tabulators, and alternative voting methods for accessibility purposes, including a vote at home program for municipal and school board elections held in the Township of King.

A lexicon defines it as “a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint” or “the easing or alleviation of a person’s feelings of grief or distress.”
King’s 2025 Development Charge Background Study and Bylaw returned for more tweaking, sparked by recent changes mandated by the Province. King council and staff reported on the DC bylaw, which is set to expire Jan. 13, 2026. Since the release of the background study on in October, the Province enacted Bill 60 – Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, 2025 – which introduces several amendments to the Development Charges Act (D.C.A.) that impact the Township’s 2025 background study.
The framework has come together for King’s comprehensive transportation plan. Councillors received the revamped Transportation Master Plan, setting in motion a process that identifies local assets, and also shared infrastructure responsibilities with the Region. As government mandates change, the document also explores joint funding models, and assesses opportunities for road uploads where regional functions are evident.
