Democracy impeded by unrest, conflict and politics

ur love-hate relationship with democracy is unique to the western world. While we find ourselves constantly at odds with government policies and decision-makers at all levels, we forget just how lucky and blessed we are. We’ve enjoyed ever-expanding human rights under our Charter since 1982. The anniversary was April 17 and every year we quietly (very Canadian) celebrate its anniversary. It solidifies the very essence of democratic rights – religion, speech, media, assembly and more.

Freedom and democracy taken for granted

We are quite lucky in this country, the True North Strong and Free. We know it, say it, but many of our citizens don’t likely grasp the true meaning. We take democracy and our rights and freedoms for granted. Didn’t we have these all along?

Democracy is the best system we have

The people have spoken. This pretty much sums up the fundamentals of our democratic system in a nutshell. Sure, our form of government may not be perfect, but it’s the very foundation of our society.

He was willing to die a martyr for the sacred principle of “free speech,” and he did.

Democracy in action at the local level

Taxpayers deserve accountability. And they deserve an open, frank explanation of where their money goes.
