Leaders at a King animal sanctuary rallied the troops once more, saving some magnificent horses from the worst fate of all. Dog Tales staff visited an auction Saturday (Feb. 28) that is frequented by “kill buyers” who purchase horses that are put to hard labour or go to sale for slaughter (meat).
For many of our equine gentle giants, the end of the road is a distasteful one indeed. Horses who have outlived their usefulness often end up at horse auctions, sold by the pound for their meat.
Helping those who can’t help themselves takes some very special qualities. And those very characteristics are evident in every nook and cranny of a new King Township facility dedicated to rescuing dogs and horses.
