Another candidate has entered what appears to be the hottest race in this year’s municipal election campaign.
Jim Streb is the fourth candidate to run in Ward 2, taking on  incumbent Peter Grandilli. Streb was only roughly 60 votes behind Grandilli in the 2010 election.
Streb said Nobleton and Laskay are beautiful communities, filled with wonderful people.
“The residents and business owners deserve the best representation they can get. Having experience in elected positions at both the local and national level, I believe that I can offer residents a knowledgeable and honest candidate,” he stressed.
Continuation of the sewer installation in Nobleton, traffic congestion, road safety, controlled growth, revitalization of village cores, and the upcoming review of provincial legislation surrounding the Oak Ridges Moraine, all present important opportunities to protect and develop our community.
“We need strong leadership and reasoned input on these issues,” Streb noted.
“The issues facing us are complex and require depth of experience and the ability to negotiate a solution that addresses the needs of the majority of stakeholders without ignoring the needs of the minority.  For more than 20 years, that is exactly what I have done.”
Streb noted that during the 2010 campaign, he had the opportunity of meeting most of the residents in the ward. “And I was amazed at the variety of backgrounds, the wealth of knowledge, the kindness, and the enthusiasm that we have in this township.  It was truly a pleasure to meet so many wonderful people, and I look forward to meeting some of the newer residents. “
Streb’s contribution to various groups and causes is lengthy.
He was trustee on the King Township Library Board; member of the policy committee, KTPL; co-chair of the King City Secondary School council; former national president, Confederation of Canadian Unions; former president, York University Staff Association; former trustee, York University Pension Plan; former board member, Pay Equity Advocacy and Legal Services; former manager, Microcomputer Support, Academic Computing Services, York University.
He’s the former co-owner of SK Reforestation and Iotech Services. He served as director of distributor training, Western Diesel Services.
Streb has coached youth basketball with the Aurora Basketball League. He has volunteered with early childhood reading programs, Earth Day cleanups, tree plantings at conservation areas and arboretums,  various school and community activities.
The 17-year Nobleton resident has been married to Tracy Kay for 20 years. They have three children; the oldest is teaching in Toronto and the two youngest are at King City Secondary School.
Streb was born in the U.S. and has dual citizenship.
Streb enjoys fishing, camping, hiking, walks with his family and lab Cassie.
