King’s Marissa Forte is Aurora’s 2025 Teen Idol
Marissa Forte, a Grade 11 student at King City Secondary School, was crowned Aurora’s 2025 Teen Idol after a stellar performance at the Aurora Performing Arts Festival recently. Held at the Aurora Town Square Performance Hall and co-hosted by the Town of Aurora and Marquee Theatrical Productions, the Performing Arts Festival saw youth contestants from kindergarten students through Grade 12, face off in a singing, dancing, and dramatic categories, with the winner of the Senior Vocal Category winning Teen Idol Honours.

It was Shakespeare’s victorious Macbeth who uttered the famous words “So fair and foul a day I have not seen” as he peered over the misty battlefield – a civil war won in daunting conditions. The Scottish King would have been right at home at Cardinal West at the King Proud Charity Golf Challenge on Thursday. With Piper Katherine McManus atop misty Cardinal West, one could imagine playing an ancestor’s home course at the base of The Highlands. McManus called the assembly to order with a stirring version of “Scotland the Brave” and piped the intrepid players on to the course to take their places at the eighteen Scramble Shotgun tee blocks.

Pub proposed for Nobleton Community Hall
A plan for a pub in the historic Nobleton Community Hall will help save the building. But some residents are afraid much will be lost in the deal. King council approved staff recommendations to look into the idea and work with the local proponents. Staff will work on a long-term lease with the company that satisfies all parties and reflects King’s interests. Staff will also begin a zoning bylaw review to repurpose the building at 19 Old King Road, and apply for any necessary heritage permits.
Can governments solve our housing ills?
Is it too much to ask for a government that means, and does well, on behalf of the people? That’s a question my son asked me the other day. Whatever happened to putting people first? I mentioned that in the preamble to the U.S. constitution, the opening line is “We the People …” In the beginning, the people not only mattered, they created change and they established the laws and rules of the land.

Township wants condo proposal scaled down
Despite widespread opposition to a plan for a six-storey condo building in Schomberg, King Township will continue to work with the developer, in hopes of scaling it down. Numerous delegations and councillor opposition almost killed the plan, but councillors opted to refer the matter back to staff. Going against the staff recommendations for approval, council is hoping staff and the developer can work together to come to a solution everyone can live with.
