Thank you to all the residents who came out to support the New Tecumseth, Caledon and King Citizens for Clean Water’s (NTCK-CCW) first public general meeting at Tecumseth Pines. We had more than 75 people in attendance who came to hear about the filling at Volk’s airfield and how it is the responsibility of the Town of New Tecumseth to enforce their no-fill bylaw and ensure that appropriate testing of the fill being accepted is free of contamination and will not affect our water.
The support and passion from all the residents was overwhelming. We were able to share the history of the filling operation, under the guise of an airport improvement project. In sharing the history, NTCK-CCW explained how they approached all levels of government, the Ministry of the Environment (Provincial), Transport Canada, the Ministry of Transportation, Simcoe County Forest and the Town of New Tecumseth to step in and ensure that our water is not affected.
We have a long fight ahead of us.
Thank you to the Tecumseth Pines home owners who let us use their meeting space, the residents for the donations to help our fight and the local politicians who came and showed their support for our cause.
The issue of fill being dumped in our neighbourhood needs to be managed and regulated. It is time that the Town of New Tecumseth protects the needs of their residents and taxpayers.
The Ontario Court of Appeal’s decision states that municipalities have the jurisdiction to enforce municipal site alterations and that airports can no longer state that fill and alteration is regulated federally.
For those who could not make the meeting and you want to know more information you can contact us at NTCK-CCW@outlook.com or follow us on Facebook at http://facebook.com/TALandfill.
