The NobleKing Knights minor midgets recently participated in the annual Schomberg Red and White Tournament. They came away as champs.
NobleKing 9, Bradford 3

In the first game of the day, the Knights were up against their rivals from Bradford. The Knights didn’t take long in opening the scoring with Adam Pia taking a pass from Mathew Bush and rushing end-to-end to make a couple of nifty moves and open the scoring, less than 1:30 into the game.
Half-way into the first, Diego Lopes picked up a rebound in front of the net and tickled the twine to give the Knights a two-goal lead, assisted by Conner Roth and Eric Else. With just under a minute left in the first, Pia took another nice feed from Sean Mendes and scampered down the ice and found the back of the net to give the Knights a comfortable 3-0 lead. The second assist went to Shad Ahmad.
Bradford scored in the first minute of the second, but a minute later, Pia restored the three-goal cushion with helpers going to Ryle MacKenzie and Cameron Thompson. Bradford dented the lead again, but Mendes sniped one to restore the lead again, with assists going to Daniel Pignataro and Bush.
Else jammed a loose puck on a power play with some great passing from Roth and Pia to give the Knights a comfortable 6-2 advantage. But just before the end of the second, Roth fired a bullet from the point on a pass from Lopes and Ahmad. Harrison Mott, despite the score, made some huge saves throughout the game.
In the third, Pignataro used his long reach to squirm through the defence to score a great backhand, with helpers going to Mendes and Thompson. Bradford got one more, but Pia closed the scoring to give the Knights the 9-3 victory. Else and Bush pitched in with assists.

NobleKing 3, East Gwillimbury 0

In game two, the Knights faced East Gwillimbury #2, who split the regular season series so far.
The Knights got off to another quick start again, With less than half a minute in, Roth fired another one of his howitzers to open the scoring with Else and Lopes helping out. The play went back and forth with Mott holding down the fort time and again to keep the score 1-0.
Half-way into the second, Pignataro took a feed from Mendes and streaked down the middle to give the Knights a 2-0 lead with the second assist going to Roth. Pia closed out the scoring before the end of the period to put the Knights up 3-0. Roth and Thompson pitched in with passes.
Moth was stellar for the Knights in goal.

NobleKing 3, Barrie 2

In the championship game, the Knights faced the Barrie Colts, who were also undefeated.
Mid-way into the first period, the Knights got the ball rolling with Thompson banging a rebound past the Colts’ goalie, from Pignataro and Bush.
Less than a minute into the second, MacKenzie took a pass from the point and somehow, through a maze of bodies, found the back of the net, with Else and Nick Fortin helping out.
Barrie opened the scoring in the third to cut the lead in half, but Lopes put the Knights up by two again with some help from Else and Pia. Barrie made it close with another goal.
Barrie pulled their goalie for the extra attacker with two minutes remaining. They pressed hard but Mott repeatedly closed the door to preserve the win and earn the championship title.
MVP for the Knights was Saad Ahmad, who played the entire tourney like he was on a mission. Congratulations go to coaches John Bush, Ray Fortin, Brad Mott and Mario Pia.
