The historic Presbyterian church in the heart of King City will come to life once again.
The new home for the HanWool Presbyterian Church, it will become the new spiritual and physical centre for the small Korean congregation.
Formerly based in Toronto, the congregation has been looking for a permanent church building for the past eight years. Securing the 1873 church in King City was quite literally “by the grace of God,” according to congregation member Hannah Hwang. Their new home is the “answer to their prayers.”
The building is still undergoing some renovations and Rev. Peter Min hopes to hold Sunday prayer meetings starting this month. At the pulpit of this congregation for the past two years, Rev. Min said he wanted to minister in King. The church draws its membership from King, Vaughan, Aurora and Richmond Hill. The King City locale is much more convenient. There’s a substantial Korean population in the GTA and HanWool wants to extend a warm welcome to Korean families and newcomers.
While currently catering to Korean members, Rev. Min noted it’s not exclusive to Koreans and he hopes to offer services in English as soon as they’re up and running.
HanWool is more like a close-knit family and they’re happy to now have a place to call home.
