Last Day of ASK Family Nature Days is Saturday

The ASK Festival King wraps up with week and the final Nature Day is Saturday, July 20.
From 8  to 9:30 a.m.  join the Happy Valley Family Hike with Ann and David Love, local naturalists, along with Todd Farrell of Nature Conservancy of Canada. Well-behaved dogs on leash permitted. Meet at the dead end of the 7th Concession, just north of the 16th Sideroad.  Registration is required.
From 10 to 11:30 a.m., build and decorate a kite at the pavilion at Cold Creek Conservation Area.  Reserve your kite with choice of turtle, butterfly or blank. Kites including string are $20 each.  Families can work on one together. Ages 8 plus or with guardian help. Registration is required.
From 10 to 4 p.m., Jacques Cantin will put the finishing touches on his 12-foot cedar strip row boat at Cold Creek. It will be launched at a later date.  A finished example will also be on display.
From 10:30 to noon, hike the Jackman property (between Nobleton  and Kleinburg). Dogs are welcome and must be leashed and scooped. Sensational wilderness hike on an extensive trail network through beautiful older growth forests and valley vistas with several suspension bridges spanning the East Humber River. Exact location given when you register.
There’s a cash barbecue at Cold Creek running 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
From 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. OPAS Plein Air Challenge at Cold Creek Conservation Area. Calling all landscape painters. Fee is $10 for non-OPAS members. From 12:30 to 3:30 artists go off to paint a scene and frame it by 3:30 p.m. They will be judged at 3:30 p.m. with awards handed out at 4:30 p.m. There will also be a People’s Choice Award. So come out and watch them paint and choose your favourite. Some paintings will also be available for sale. Artists register at noon at the pavilion.
From 1 to 4 p.m. enjoy the bog walk, heritage barn tour and/or geocaching. Free and no registration required. Cold Creek Stewardship and Parks Recreation & Culture staff will help you with whatever you choose to do from the pavilion at Cold Creek.
From 3 to 4:30 p.m. enjoy some canoe rides. Meet at the pond at Cold Creek.  Enjoy canoeing for 30 minutes. Reservations requested but you can always take a chance.
