Annual Cruise for the Cure raises money and awareness for Prostate Cancer Canada & Shiners Children’s Hospital

Adversity and success has touched the lives of King Township’s Tim and Brenda Schmidt.
On Sunday, July 21, Tim and Brenda, in affiliation with ABC Group, one of the leading automotive systems and components manufacturers in the world, will be hosting their 3rd annual car show – Cruise for the Cure – to raise money and awareness for Prostate Cancer as the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
Tim and Brenda, Tim’s mother Helga and the whole ABC Group family have been impacted by prostate cancer, like so many other. Raising money to help find a cure for this disease is a way to keep our loved ones’ battle alive and raise awareness.
In addition, they have chosen to support the Shriner’s Hospital for Children-Canada. As a child, Brenda benefited from their treatment, thus holding a special place in her heart! They provide world-class care to children from across Canada and treat a host of orthopedic and neuromusculoskeletal disorders in a family-focused environment that puts children at ease. Every member of their staff, from surgeons to therapists, nurses to orthotists, are committed to helping children improve their quality of life and achieve as much independence as possible.
Last year’s fundraiser brought in more than  4,000 visitors and raised over $70,000 for prostate cancer. John Derringer from Q107, The Carpet Frogs, and the Toronto Argonauts were great supporters of this event last year. This family oriented fundraiser is becoming a major event with expected soccer, hockey and CFL celebrities coming out to support the cause in 2013.
The fundraiser takes place on Tim and Brenda’s private 200-acre estate showcasing some of Tim’s private collection of automobiles. Raising prostate cancer awareness among men was one of the Schmidt family’s goals and what better form to do that in but with a car show showcasing southern Ontario’s best custom and performance cars with awards for grand champion, people’s choice and 25 runners-up.
The all-day event, with expected attendance of 5,000 people and upward, will also have live entertainment by Alan Frew (Glass Tiger), The Carpet Frogs, a children’s mini carnival including a giant Ferris wheel, pony rides, and lots of food.
Joining Tim and Brenda will be members of the Grey Cup champions, The Toronto Argonauts. There will be raffles and 50/50 draws to help raise money for these wonderful charities. It’s fun for the whole family.
Tim & Brenda’s Cruise for the Cure takes place Sunday, at 13200 Weston Road. Doors open at 9 a.m. for patrons, with a $10 donation for parking. For those competing in the car show, please arrive at 8 a.m. For more information, visit http://www.timandbrendasplace.com.
