Volunteers are the spokes of the community ‘wheel’
t’s been said that the world is hugged by the faithful arms of volunteers. That sentiment was evident last week as King Township recognized the efforts of citizens at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Night. Heralded as Mayor Pellegrini’s most favourite event of the year in King, local givers were in the spotlight, shining brightly.

King’s volunteers were recognized for their selfless commitment to the community last week. King Township, council and the community gathered to pay tribute to these special people at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Night. This year, there were a record number of nominations, attesting to the tireless efforts of volunteers.
Police looking into homicide after body found
The shocking discovery of a body on a walking trail north of King City has York Regional Police homicide unit investigating. Police deemed the incident a homicide and the victim has been identified as 18-year-old Zackhry Ramnath of Montreal. YRP said it looks like a “targeted incident.”
Committee defers ruling on Mary Lake variances
King’s Committee of Adjustment held off ruling on minor variances related to a long-term care facility at Mary Lake. The committee meeting Wednesday evening went late into the night. After being bombarded with more than a dozen citizen delegations and receiving 29 letters of objection, the committee decided to hold a special meeting this coming Wednesday, April 26 to reconsider the matter. The decision came after a lengthy, closed-door session in which committee members received legal advice.
How long does it take to become truly wise?
I was hoping, at this stage of my life, to be wise beyond my years. That isn’t the case. It’s not for a lack of trying, mind you. It just seems that as soon as I get a handle on things, the universe steps in and changes all the rules. It’s left me confused, almost like I’m in a fog. Wisdom – learning from our experiences – is not what happens to us. It’s what we do with what happens to us.
Resident’s accomplishment makes it into world record book
The amazing adventure by a local resident has earned world-wide recognition. Guinness World Records has certified that the 2017 C150 Global Odyssey was the first father and son circumnavigation of the world by any kind of aircraft. Because it is a “World First,” this record will stand forever.
King moves forward on a climate action plan strategy
King is moving towards its climate action goals, with the approval of a Climate Action Plan Engagement Strategy. In 2019, council declared a State of Climate Emergency to address the ongoing climate crisis and to join a growing movement across the world to help mitigate climate change. The declaration helped deepen King's commitment to being leaders in the environmental and climate change field.
