Don’t be afraid – be alive – is very good advice. And it’s so true that we seldom see what’s shining at the end of our own noses. For most of us, life moves forward at break-neck speed, pausing just long enough for us to slouch down on the sofa, or hit the hay with arms and legs dangling off the bed.

King pharmacist honoured as ‘trailblazer’

A Schomberg pharmacist is among four Filipino-Canadian trailblazers who have joined the ranks of recipients for the prestigious “Most Influential Filipina Woman in the World:” Award from the Foundation for Filipina Women’s Network. Anna Patrizio, pharmacist, and owner of Schomberg Village Pharmacy, was thrilled to be among this group.

Inaugural meetings welcome council members

Two new faces will join King council this term in an election that suffered from low voter turnout. Jennifer Anstey was elected Ward 3 councillor during Monday’s election. She took the race with 228 votes and 42% of the vote. Close behind was Adam Pham, who collected 192 votes (35%). Incumbent Jakob Schneider was third, with 120 votes (22%). Ryan Raymond, with only eight votes, finished fourth. Of the 1,923 eligible voters in the ward, only 548 turned out, or 28.5%.

Villanova featured in Netflix film

A special location in King can be easily identified in an upcoming film on Netflix. 13: The Musical was partially shot at Villanova College near King City recently. According to a Netflix spokesperson, the exterior scenes of Evan’s school in Walkerton, Indiana were filmed at Villanova College, an independent school for elementary to high school aged students.

Roads, traffic top issues among candidates

Roads and traffic were the top issues among candidates seeking election in King. The passion and desire to contribute was quite evident, at the final all-candidates’ event, sponsored by the King Chamber of Commerce last week. A robust and genuine discussion took place at The Country Day School, among those vying for a council seat.

Team-based care needed to solve shortages

Not having a family doctor could very well mean the difference between life and death. What’s desperately needed is a team-based care approach to health care in this province. Bolton physician Dr. Michael Gagnon explained Ontarians are suffering from the lack of proper care, largely due to a lack of general practitioners.
