Growth through 2051 will present challenges

Land to accommodate growth in Ontario through 2051 will put pressure on municipalities like King Township. As York Region prepares its Official Plan, it has created a draft forecast and land needs assessment through 2051. York is suggesting a portion of King’s future growth and urban expansion be designed on Whitebelt lands. King is forecasted to grow to 49,600 by 2051, and be home to 16,400 jobs.

Funding supports crops research centre

Both the federal and provincial governments are supporting innovation in agri-food, by boosting the efforts of a King-based research facility. The governments are pitching in $150,000 to help drive new research at the Ontario Crops Research Centre. Details of the plan were delivered by Caroline Mulroney, MPP for York-Simcoe, and Ontario’s Minister for Transportation and for Francophone Affairs, and Helena Jaczek, Member of Parliament for Markham-Stouffville.

Bylaw enacted for large-scale events

Some new rules are coming into effect for large gatherings on private property in King. Council approved staff recommendations for a bylaw to regulae large-scale events. Special events on private property involve consultation with York Regional Police and emergency services, to ensure safety, traffic control, etc. The bylaw also contains stronger enforcement tools, including fines.
