The party of the year in King has something for everyone. Sip & Savour is the main fundraiser for the King Township Food Bank. “London Calling” is the theme for the soiree, which will be held Oct. 19 at Nobleton Lakes.

Soupfest showcases the bounty of local produce

There’s nothing like a hearty, home-made bowl of soup. Imagine an event that features dozens of them! The annual Holland Marsh Soupfest will be held Saturday, Sept. 30 at Ansnorveldt Park. It runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. but arrive early for the best selection. The event is so popular that many stations run out of soup by lunch time.

Cougars split first week of PJHL season

It was quite a polarizing first week of the Provincial Junior Hockey League season for the Schomberg Cougars. The Junior C club kicked off their season on Thursday with a home opener against the Stayner Siskins at the Trisan Centre, where the new-look squad was lit up by four Siskins goals in the first period, followed by five straight in the second to prompt the removal of Matthew Lolli from the net.

King family reaches out to help needy in Guatemala

Supporting a worthy cause can be quite contagious. Giving back is essential for King’s Clara Lovisotto and she’s brought her family into the fold of an organization that’s near and dear to her heart. Lovisotto has been involved in the Canadian Central American Relief Effort (CCAMRE) for more than 15 years, a group that provides direct, on-the-ground assistance to people living in the Merendon Mountains of La Union, Guatemala.

Global Odyssey is now in the record books

King Mayor Steve Pellegrini has been named as the honorary chair of Sip & Savour, the main fundraiser for the King Township Food Bank. Philanthropist and TV personality Joan Kelley Walker will also be a special guest.

Mulroney named PC candidate in York-Simcoe

Following in the footsteps of one of the longest serving MPPs in history isn’t easy. But Caroline Mulroney, the PC candidate in York-Simcoe, will certainly try. Mulroney was named the candidate during a lively and well attended nomination meeting at the Georgina Ice Palace on the weekend. She hopes to carry on the tradition set by Julia Munro, who will not be seeking re-election in 2018.
