Plans for gas bar well received

Plans to resurrect a gas bar in northern King came as good news to councillors recently. The public meeting revealed that the owner of the 1.81-acre property on Highway 11 is seeking a zoning bylaw amendment to permit a drive-thru car wash, service station and convenience store. The site was used as a gas station between 1974 and 2009.

New parklands a huge bonus for King

The idea of establishing a new park, and saving lands from development, came as great news to King councillors recently. King is supporting the idea of creating the East Humber Headwaters Park, located within the Oak Ridges Moraine, bounded by the 15th Sideroad, King Road, Dufferin and Bathurst.

King artist Julia Tomlinson debuts on The Launch

Julia Tomlinson thought she could, so she did. And boy what an impact this singer-songwriter has made. Tomlinson makes her national debut along with CTV’s original music show, The Launch, Jan. 10. The soulful 23-year-old is among 30 artists chosen to perform in this ground-breaking, six-episode series.

King’s new recreation complex will be the envy of York Region

King’s planned multi-faceted recreation complex will be a model, and the envy of all other York municipalities. This model of cooperation resulted in an innovative agreement between King Township and Seneca College. The deal sees Seneca providing a 25-acre parcel on its lands at the northwest corner of Dufferin and the 15th Sideroad, on a 60-year ground lease. King will build and operate the facility.

Patrick Brown visits King, lauds candidates

The Leader of the Official Opposition has “high hopes” for PC candidates vying to become King’s next MPPs. PC Leader Patrick Brown visited the offices of Moffat Dunlap in rural King recently, bolstering local candidates Stephen Lecce and Caroline Mulroney. Brown said he’s so proud to have such “heavyweight” representation in these talented individuals, who would make “spectacular MPPs.”

Mete helps Canada to top of Group A at World Juniors

Hockey fans across the nation were given quite a scare on Monday, when Victor Mete failed to practice with Team Canada on their day off at the World Junior Hockey Championship. Rumours began to swirl around the much-hyped tournament and the Montreal Canadiens’ defenceman, a former King City resident and student at Country Day School.

Fincham’s Harness Shop closes after four decades in Nobleton

It is with at least some mixed feelings that Brian and Lauryn Sinnott are closing the doors at Fincham’s Harness Shop at the end of the year. After all, the shop has been a fixture in Nobleton for over four decades and they have made a lot of friends and acquaintances over the years. However, the Sinnotts have decided it’s time to retire and move on to some new adventures.

King City’s Mete earns spot on Team Canada roster

After realizing one of his hockey dreams this past October, donning an NHL sweater for the first time, Victor Mete is now two-for-two in 2017 after being named to Team Canada’s World Junior roster on Friday.

King moves to designate historic home

King Township is pushing for a heritage designation on a Schomberg home, to save it from destruction. Councillors approved staff recommendations recently to file a “Notice of Intention to Designate” 66 Main Street, under the Ontario Heritage Act.
