Council demands zero increase in 2018 budget

Despite valiant efforts by King Township staff to create a responsible draft budget, councillors have asked for a zero tax increase in 2018. Treasurer Allan Evelyn presented the draft budget Monday night with a 1.99% increase. That would have resulted in a blended 3% hike, or roughly $200 for a home assessed at $784,500.

Majority of Magna lands in King up for sale

The bulk of the 100-acre parcel at the corner of King Road and Jane Street in King is up for sale. The parcel, purchased by Magna International to serve as its new headquarters, is being divided and sold.

Township sells strip mall property for $10.75 million

King Township has sold its current municipal office and strip plaza for almost $11 million. Councillors approved the deal Monday night. Zancor Homes (King Cort) Ltd. will pay $10.75 million for the property at 2075 King Road in King City.

King’s history will come together in new book

The colourful history of King Township will come alive in a comprehensive book. King council, sparked by a request from the King Township Historical Society, has agreed to provide matching funds, up to $25,000 for the project. The funds will come from the proceeds of the annual council golf tournament, which traditionally earmarks its funds to the Parks, Recreation and Culture department.

Sign bylaw sent back for final tweaking

A request by a King City business led councillors to send its revamped sign bylaw back to staff for one final revision. King council was ready to pass the new and improved sign bylaw Jan. 8, but deferred the matter after a local business asked for added signage for the King’s Ridge Market.
