Community networking helps to build more than bridges. It creates long-lasting relationships. King council and staff received an update on the work and progress by Magna’s Neighbourhood Network. On deck were erin Cerenzia, manager of the network, and Teri Hastings, King’s volunteer ambassador.

‘Our King’ Official Plan nears completion

King Township took a giant leap forward with the public unveiling of its new Official Plan – “Our King.” After years of work, public engagement, and a “fantastic” amount of input, King reached this milestone last week at a special public meeting, where the final draft of Our King was revealed.

Automotive facility moves ahead, car wash on hold

The operation and alterations to the Nobleton property that’s home to a car wash and auto service centre created some public concerns at King council recently. After public presentations and a lengthy discussion, council decided to allow the service centre to proceed with conditional occupancy, but they put a hold on the automated car wash. The application for 24/7 hours of the coin-operated car wash was denied.

King artist and activist Fox joins Canada Goose team

An iconic Canadian brand chose Indigenous Peoples Day to celebrate and share indigenous stories with the world. Canada Goose announced that King artist and Indigenous activist Sarain Fox has become an official “Goose Person.” Goose People are a diverse group of brand ambassadors – they are everyday heroes who strive for excellence and embody the company’s values. Their epic journeys, inspiring accomplishments and exhilarating lifestyles encourage people to engage with the outside world.

Charity golf tournament raises record funds for Easter Seals

No amount of poor weather could dampen the spirits at the annual Friends of We Care Charity Golf Challenge, held at Kettle Creek at Cardinal Golf Club. Around 80 registrees, and 55 golfers, took to the course and the clubhouse for the day to honour and raise funds for the Easter Seals foundation, bringing in approximately $18,000 to send kids with disabilities to camp. “It was a good crowd for a rainy day,” said Morning. “There are some people that have been there from the beginning.”

Nobleton project will reflect community’s flavour

A new and improved project for downtown Nobleton checks all the boxes. A proposal for commercial and residential blocks, surrounding the historic Hambly House, is heralded as “exciting.” Council okayed staff recommendations for the bylaw amendment, that will give Nobleton Heritage Development Inc. the go-ahead for 33 apartments and 1,877 square metres of commercial space.

New posts for local MPPs Lecce and Mulroney

The MPPs representing King residents have new positions at Queen’s Park. King-Vaughan MPP Stephen Lecce and York-Simcoe MPP Caroline Mulroney have new cabinet ministries, following a major shuffle last week by Premier Doug Ford. The changes, he said, will “build on the priorities for the people of Ontario for the year ahead.”

‘What an unbelievable year,’ Pietrangelo hoists Stanley Cup

January 1, 2019: The St. Louis Blues sit dead last in the National Hockey league standings. June 12, 2019: The St. Louis Blues are Stanley Cup champions. Chief among the victors is Alex Pietrangelo, the pride of King City, and the first to raise the Cup after the go-ahead from Commissioner Gary Bettman.

King native helps pay it forward with business

A King native understands the importance of a great work ethic. Taylor Monti enjoys working outdoors and loves his jobs. He also hires students to help with their tuition as a means of paying it forward.

King reduces speed on Mill Road

In response to residents’ concerns, King council has decided to reduce the speed on Mill Road just east of Nobleton.
