Stars shine bright at King Curling Club event

The stars were bright at the King Curling Club last Friday evening as the club welcomed some of the province’s top women curlers for “Curling with the Stars,” an event that helped kick off the clubs 2019-20 season. The elite curlers were not the only celebrities who graced the sheets of King. Mayor Steve Pellegrini and Councillor Bill Cober were on hand to throw the ceremonial rock as well as a full house of club members broom ready for the event.

The King Chamber of Commerce held its annual Excellence in Business Awards Dinner last week, honouring the efforts of local entrepreneurs. King’s new Official Plan is a legacy document

“This is a legacy that this council will leave,” is how King Mayor Steve Pellegrini referred to the new, and long overdue, Official Plan. Councillors passed the comprehensive planning document Sept. 23, after a productive discussion and input from several residents. Councillors made some last-minute amendments to the plan, which included zoning changes to the core area in King City, limiting severances and placing a two-acre lot minimum in Kingscross.

A King resident has tested positive for the West Nile virus. This is the first human case of the virus reported in 2019 in York Region. “The risk of exposure to West Nile virus can be reduced by taking simple steps,” said Dr. Karim Kurji, York Region’s medical officer of health.
