Majority of Magna lands in King up for sale

The bulk of the 100-acre parcel at the corner of King Road and Jane Street in King is up for sale. The parcel, purchased by Magna International to serve as its new headquarters, is being divided and sold.

Township sells strip mall property for $10.75 million

King Township has sold its current municipal office and strip plaza for almost $11 million. Councillors approved the deal Monday night. Zancor Homes (King Cort) Ltd. will pay $10.75 million for the property at 2075 King Road in King City.

King’s history will come together in new book

The colourful history of King Township will come alive in a comprehensive book. King council, sparked by a request from the King Township Historical Society, has agreed to provide matching funds, up to $25,000 for the project. The funds will come from the proceeds of the annual council golf tournament, which traditionally earmarks its funds to the Parks, Recreation and Culture department.

New parklands a huge bonus for King

The idea of establishing a new park, and saving lands from development, came as great news to King councillors recently. King is supporting the idea of creating the East Humber Headwaters Park, located within the Oak Ridges Moraine, bounded by the 15th Sideroad, King Road, Dufferin and Bathurst.

King’s new recreation complex will be the envy of York Region

King’s planned multi-faceted recreation complex will be a model, and the envy of all other York municipalities. This model of cooperation resulted in an innovative agreement between King Township and Seneca College. The deal sees Seneca providing a 25-acre parcel on its lands at the northwest corner of Dufferin and the 15th Sideroad, on a 60-year ground lease. King will build and operate the facility.

King moves to designate historic home

King Township is pushing for a heritage designation on a Schomberg home, to save it from destruction. Councillors approved staff recommendations recently to file a “Notice of Intention to Designate” 66 Main Street, under the Ontario Heritage Act.

New tribunal to replace OMB a step in the right direction

The provincial government’s passing of new legislation that will revamp the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB), and give municipalities a stronger voice in planning, is a step in the right direction. The Building Better Communities and Conserving Watersheds Act, 2017 will replace the Ontario Municipal Board with the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal, and help ensure that proceedings before the tribunal are faster, fairer and more affordable.
