A Nobleton man has a very big reason to enjoy the holidays this year – he’s alive! Earl Keen, 56, suffered cardiac arrest during a hockey game at the Nobleton Arena Dec. 8. He’s alive thanks to the quick actions of his teammates and a public automated external defibrillator (AED).
King City will be home to a modern, state-of-the-art library and seniors centre. Councillors gave their approval to the project at a special meeting last week. They heard from Alar Kongats, the project’s architect, who took them through a presentation of what the expansion could look like, including concept drawings showing a beautiful, modern building.
King councillors rejected plans for a Snowball firm to expand, going against staff recommendations. In what was called “the most difficult decision of the year,” councillors were persuaded by emotional pleas from residents, who have been complaining about the company’s operation for many years.
King councillors and members of the public have sent a strong message to proponents of a townhouse development in King City. They want the proposal sent back to the drawing board, to make it more in keeping with the community.
A seemingly routine traffic study stirred the proverbial hornets’ nest at King council recently. The ward-by-ward study results for 2015-2016 were presented to council, along with several recommendations.
A Nobleton development has been given a six-month extension, while the applicants catch up on needed site work. Councillor David Boyd recommended that Edgecore Investments (Fandor Homes) be given the six-month extension for the Via Moto subdivision on King Road. This project, formerly known as Tomlinson Gardens, has stalled and changed owners over the years.
An innovative and much-needed multi-unit residential development is drawing praise from King councillors. Council, at its Oct. 17 meeting, received plans for the development on Keele Street in King City during a public information meeting. The project involves some 60 stacked townhouses/condominium units in three buildings along Keele, in what was once the old potato chip factory. As well, one of the units will have some commercial space available.
King Township planning staff are reviewing the policies and zoning, to create guidelines for medical marihuana production facilities. They’re trying to decide just where these operations should go, given some mixed messages by politicians.
Seneca’s major expansion at King Campus got a huge boost with the announcement of a $3-million donation from Magna International, Seneca's largest-ever philanthropic gift. The news came at the official launch of the expansion Tuesday, which included remarks from the Hon. Deb Matthews, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, the Hon. Dr. Helena Jaczek, MPP, Oak Ridges-Markham and Steve Pellegrini, King Mayor.
