King’s volunteers are the foundation of the community

One special night hardly seems enough to recognize the talents and contributions of King’s finest volunteers. The community gathered last week to pay tribute to some very special individuals, those who share a passion for others and serving their town. Many of the volunteers have spent a lifetime giving back and they, in turn, were honoured during the annual Volunteer Appreciation Night held last Thursday at the Kingbridge Centre.

Schomberg in the spotlight on popular TV drama Designated Survivor

Schomberg was easily recognized in segments of a popular TV drama. The iconic Main Street and the interior of The Scruffy Duck were featured in an episode of the made-in-Canada political thriller Designated Survivor, starring Kiefer Sutherland.

Sun shines on King Township staffers

While frugal by comparison to other municipalities, King Township had 11 staff members who made the civil servant “Sunshine List” in 2016. That’s three more than 2015.

Plans for Nobleton strip mall moving forward

Responding to input from residents, the proponent of a Nobleton strip mall has made substantial changes and improvements to the design, making it much more palatable. King council hosted a public meeting on a bid by Condor Properties to amend the zoning bylaw to rezone the lands to permit the commercial operation.

King supports York’s Internet funding initiative

Teaming up with York Region will help fill some gaps in Internet service across the region. King Township officially voiced its support for York’s move to seek millions in funding from the federal government’s Connect to Innovate Program. The plan in York is to expand the broadband network in King, Georgina, East Gwillimbury and Whitchurch-Stouffville through a massive, 175-kilometre network.

Vianet well positioned to serve King residents

A commitment by government and strategic private partnerships are making progress in providing residents with high-speed Internet access. Vianet, with a facility in King, has made a major investment in the future.

The public was given its first glimpse at a plan to build a small-scale townhouse complex in King City. King council received the delegations and staff report, for the official plan and zoning bylaw amendment for seven, three-storey, freehold townhomes on King Boulevard.
