King Township is supporting the Country Day School’s push for traffic signals in front of the prestigious private school. Councillors passed a recommendation to inform York Region they support the CDS request for immediate installation of the signals, at the school’s expense.

Township reserves bolstered by surplus

A surplus from King Township’s 2016 operating budget has been put into reserves. King’s 2016 audited financial statements were received by councillors recently. The 2016 operating surplus came to $817,405.

King City and Schomberg have new zoning bylaws

Long-awaited planning documents have now been approved for both King City and Schomberg. King councillors approved the new zoning bylaw for the villages at the June 26 council meeting. Councillors were pleased to see this come to fruition. Consultant Bobby Gauthier, from consulting planners MMM Group, noted there have been many revisions to the zoning bylaw and they were driven by key issues – core area zoning, the character of established neighbourhoods, and a special policy area around the King City GO station lands.

Highway 400 expansion will create jobs, improve traffic flow

The Province is creating jobs and keeping people moving by widening more than 10 kilometres of Highway 400, from Major Mackenzie Drive in Vaughan to King Road in the Township of King. Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca and Helena Jaczek, MPP for Oak Ridges-Markham, joined Mayor Steve Pellegrini last week, to announce the construction of the Highway 400 widening project. This project, which is scheduled for completion in fall 2020, will widen the highway from six lanes to eight lanes and include a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction.

Opposition to plan for stacked townhouses in King City

King City may be a suitable place for residential intensification, but there’s a limit to what politicians and the public are willing to accept. King councillors and residents made it clear that a proposed 4-storey, 48 stacked townhouse complex on Keele Street is just too much for the community.

Councillors cost taxpayers $280Gs

The decision-makers for King Township cost taxpayers a reasonable $280,000 in 2016. Township staff presented a report on council remuneration and expenses for 2016 recently. The salary, benefits, mileage and expenses total $280,394.98 for the mayor and six councillors who serve King residents.
