Township can’t afford school site

Both Simon Lloyd and Ed Millar gave excellent reasons for the Township to not purchase the former Holy Name School. If the Township has a financial surplus it should be spent in areas where it truly is needed: on our roads, for instance.
I recently had to replace the tires on my car and while there was obvious wear and tear related to normal driving, they also showed premature shredding. Did the appalling state of the roads in King Township contribute?
Back in April I wrote a letter, which the Sentinel printed, where I suggested that public sector workers live in an unrealistic world financed by the ever-increasing burden placed upon the private sector. The private sector has learned that you “can’t always get what you want!,” something the public sector still cannot grasp.
I have lived in King Township for 18 years and in that time my taxes have increased substantially.  As I have no children and live on a well and septic system, the only fundamental services I receive are garbage pick-up and snow clearing, both of which are excellent.  However, it seems a high price to pay!
The reality is that King Township simply cannot afford to purchase the Holy Name School. Neither does it need to. It already has municipal offices, which are more than adequate.
I think it is time that the public sector got a dose of reality and opted to forego grandiose schemes in the interest of obvious necessities.
