King Food Bank open this Saturday

With special social distancing measure in place, the Food Bank will be open to those registered to receive assistance this Saturday 9-11 a.m. Those needing help and not registered should do so immediately through email ktfoodbank@gmail.com or by phone, leaving a message at 905-806-1125.

King closes facilities to contain spread of COVID-19

King has joined the widespread COVID-19 containment measures by closing its facilities through April 6. The situation is changing daily, with reduced hours and closures becoming commonplace.

Non-offensive movement hinders freedoms

I am proud to be part of this great Canadian society we share. I also love enjoying the benefits of my home community of Caledon, and my adopted home of King. The unique, caring and dedicated residents often give me cause to pause, reflect and take comfort in my fellow human beings.

King City Lions win third consecutive title

The King City Lions defeat St. Brother Andre Cardinals 4-2, bringing home the division one YRAA hockey championship for the third consecutive year. The irony is, it was the year of the firsts. The Lions won the title for the first time on home ice in Nobleton Arena and went the entire season undefeated in all competitive matches; never accomplished before by any other hockey team in school history.

Bylaw enforcement keeps Township staff busy

Enforcing King’s bylaws keeps Township staffers busy from one end of the municipality to the other. A staff report highlighting activities in 2019 noted a high volume of inquiries, complaints and requests for services.

Councillor wants to combat illegal grow-ops

The proliferation of illegal marijuana grow-ops in King has councillors concerned. The situation is especially bad in the Holland Marsh area, and Ward 6 Councillor Avia Eek wants something done about it.

Are we nothing, or are we everything?

Humans have an amazing capacity for pretty much anything. Put a problem or puzzle in front of us, and we’re bound to solve it. We can create something out of nothing, but not on the grand scale of the universe. At least not yet!

Rocco Macri made a difference at helm of Foodland

There’s something different in the aisles at Schomberg’s Foodland. The end of an era came as Rocco Macri, the likeable, community-minded franchise owner, decided to retire. Macri, who recently turned 68, decided to retire, after 45 years in the business, the last 11 in Schomberg. He’s loved every minute of his career, and it won’t be easy to say good-bye to a community he’s grown to love. He wanted to leave the store on a high note.

King’s TMP helps align local, regional network

King will soon have an updated Transportation Master Plan, but the decision didn’t come without a lot of debate and compromise. A strong contingent of residents, largely from the Snowball community, turned out to oppose certain recommendations in this guiding document that centred around the 17th Sideroad.

Firefighters, Rockford’s raise $20K for family

The King community has come together to extend heart-felt support to a Vaughan family. King firefighters responded to the call to help one of their own and staged a one-night fundraising event at Rockford’s in King City. That event, which included donations, draws and support from Rockford’s itself, raised an incredible $20,165.
