King City brings home silver in OFSAA hockey finals

It was a banner year for the King City Secondary School Lions, who picked up a silver medal at last week’s A/AA boys OFSAA hockey championships. Over 500 players and coaches descended on Collingwood, Thornbury, and Stayner to battle it out for provincial supremacy, the Lions entering the third seed after one of their most successful seasons ever on the ice.

Some kids will never shoot for the stars

I was uplifted by some inspirational words by guests speakers at a Guiding banquet last week. Caledon regional councillor Annette Groves, and King’s own LCol (ret’d) Susan Beharriell, offered some encouragement to young women about overcoming obstacles and challenges, and really setting your sights as high as you can.

King rolls out the red carpet for film crews

King is becoming a sought after location for GTA area film crews. Its topography lends itself to almost any scenario. Recently, a Nobleton area honey farm was used for a scene of the TV drama Designated Survivor.

Alloro fundraising BBQ helps families

Alloro Fine Foods in Nobleton wasted no time in helping their neighbours. Donna Compagnone witnessed the devastating fire March 19 that destroyed one home and severely damaged another. There were four people in the home at the time, they all made it out safely, with one person sustaining minor injuries.

CHATS Walk for Wellness supports seniors

CHATS (Community & Home Assistance to Seniors) will be hosting its 9th annual Walk for Wellness, with a $25,000 goal to support the programs and services our senior community relies on to live independently.
