Cougars earn three of four points in crucial week

The Schomberg Cougars came away from an important week with three out of four points after a win over Huntsville and an overtime loss to the Alliston Hornets. With 29 points, the Cougars remain tied with the Hornets for second place in the Georgian Mid-Ontario Jr. C standings. All in all, it was another good week for the Cougars, who are looking to keep pace with the top teams.

Beth Underhill takes second at weekend Royal event

America's Leslie Howard is a legend in the sport of show jumping and she handily won the $75,000 Ricoh Big Ben Challenge this weekend at the CSI4*-W Royal Horse Show, in front of a standing-room only crowd of equine enthusiasts. Canadian Olympian Beth Underhill was runner-up again, following her reserve-champion finish in last weekend's Greenhawk Canadian Cup. Underhill’s mount Viggo also received the “All Canadian Cup” that evening, awarded to the Leading Canadian Horse in the International Division. Of the 23 to start the Royal’s marquee event, seven were able to keep the jumps up to progress to a jump-off round.

King gives Kettleby Fair a helping hand to cover shortfall

The Kettleby Fair is getting a helping hand from the Township of King. Council decided to approve one-time funding assistance for the Kettleby Fair at a meeting Monday. Kettleby Fair coordinators Carol Ann Trabert and Gary Vogan requested financial assistance after a shortfall was experienced two years in a row due to inclement weather, which resulted in poor attendance.
