Mother Nature helped show off the natural beauty of Cold Creek Conservation Area recently, the scene of the second annual Tom Marchese Trail Run & Walk, in aid of the King Township Food Bank.
It was a great way to usher in the annual King Township Springfest.
Run founder Tom Marchese was just “busting at the seams, thrilled with the turnout.”
He said 41 people register for the event, and 37 participated. The trail was in “spectacular shape,” and the participants had a chance to see Cold Creek in all its glory.
Registration was up 30% over last yea and participation was up 300% largely due to the spectacular weather, he said.
This year, the event was chip timed by a professional organization that posted the results.
Schomberg’s Simon Lloyd finished first in a time of just over 39 minutes. Thomas Harrison of Schomberg finished 2nd, followed by Joseph Geiser (Mississauga) and Schomberg residents Peter Zantingh, Marcus Marchese, Michelle Marchese and Michelle O’Brien. Tottenham’s Chad Mitchell was 9th and Sutton West’s Christian Bennett rounded out the top 10.
“We had fantastic support from local businesses that donated raffle prizes,” Marchese observed.
Lindsey Berman Photography Nobleton offered a one-hour photo shoot valued at $249. The winner was Stefan Jennewein.
King resident Darlean Fitzgerald donated a scrapbooking/card making kit, won by Jacob Zantingh.
Foodland Schomberg donated three separate gift certificates valued at $25 each. Winners are Simon Lloyd, Chloe Mitchell and Samantha Johnston.
Couples Hair Design & Aesthetics Nobleton donated His and Her Hair Cuts valued at $65. The winner was Maria Marchese.
In This Corner Restaurant Schomberg provided a $50 voucher, won by Sheilagh Ashworth.
“My vision for the event is to create a synergy between local business, the community, and the Food Bank,” Marchese said. “I am very ecstatic with the growth we experienced this year.”
The event raised $4,000 for the Food Bank.
