Minor peewee Knights win tournament

October 1, 2013   ·   0 Comments

The NobleKing Knights minor peewees, sponsored by Solo Motors, Cappuccino Bakery, Sabrina Foods and Diceman Lawn Care, travelled to Orangeville to take part in their Earlybird AA Tournament.
The first game was against the Georgina Blaze and the score ended 2-2, with NobleKing goals coming from David Bazzo and Lucas Ceccarelli with assists to Carter Diceman, Adam Miller and Nicholas Vitale. If it were not for the solid goaltending of Matthew Brunato NobleKing would have been on the wrong end of the score.
Game 2 was against a fast-skating team from TNT and King players were caught off guard and as a result of this the score ended 2-1 in favour of TNT, with Diceman getting NobleKing’s lone goal assisted by Ceccarelli and Anthony Critelli.
The third game of the round robin was against the home team from Orangeville and this is when the Knights finally started to find their skating legs. The final score was 4-2 with Zachary Cafaro scoring on a shot from the point to give the Knights a 1-0 lead to end the first period. It stayed that way until the third period when Bazzo, Ceccarelli and Jack Miller scored three goals in a 4 minute span to put the game out of reach. Assists on those goals went to Jack MacDonald, Thomas Karanicolas, and Matthew DeAngelis.
Sunday morning was the semi-final game against Georgina and with the score ending 3-1, it gave the Knights a trip to the finals later that afternoon.
Goals and assists came from Diceman, Bazzo, J. Miller, Angelo DeAngelis, and Anthony DiCosola. The glove hand of Matteo Manfrini in net for the Knights was on full display as he snared no less than 3 shots that were intended for the top corner of the net.
The championship game vs TNT was a tight checking affair early as neither team could score in the first period.
In the second after some solid forechecking by Gabriel Pecchia and DiCosola, the puck was passed to the front of the net to A. DeAngelis where he deposited a hard wrist shot past the TNT goalie. A nice end-to-end rush by Cafaro resulting in a goal and two power play markers by Diceman put the Knights up 4-0 before TNT could respond with two late goals and the final was 4-2 for the tournament victory.  Assists on the final three goals went to MacDonald, Miller, Critelli, Bazzo and Ceccarelli.
The coaches Tom, Fab and Frank would like to thank the players and especially the parents for a great weekend.
