The novice Schomberg Red Wings endured only one loss on their way to a York-Simcoe Hockey League divisional title over the weekend.
A 4-0 shutout of the Whitchurch-Stouffville Clippers on the road last Thursday was the clincher in the first-to-six-points series. The Wings won three games in a row following a series-opening loss. Lit up at the Trisan Centre by a score of 8-4, the Wings went on to victory by scores of 3-2 and 7-1, before Thursday’s shutout.
The Wings swept through a three-game series with the Richmond Hill Stars in the semi-finals, as well as a six-game round robin with the Aurora Tigers and Orillia Terriers to reach the YSMHL final.
Following a 34-6-8 regular season record, the novice squad is the only Schomberg team to raise a title banner in the 2015-16 season.
