With spring in bloom, King’s varsity athletes have moved from the rink to the diamond to kick off the 2015 baseball season.
The highly-competitive senior baseball CISAA league has resumed play with high attendance and an elite level of play. The Country Day School Cyclones, King’s only representatives in the league, have so far fallen to an 0-2 record.
On Monday, they travelled to their shared home diamond on St. Andrew’s College’s campus, in tough against the Saints, who have dominated the league divisionally for years.
Nine hits brought in 10 runs for the Saints in only the first inning, digging a hole for the Cyclones that was nearly impossible to climb out of.
They resume play this week against St. Michael’s College, the other undefeated team in the West division.
On the girls side, it’s been a competitive season for the Cyclones as they prepare for back-to-back matchups with Bayview Glen this weekend. They have so far played to a 1-1 record, including a heartbreaking 11-10 loss to Holy Trinity School last week.

In softball action, Villanova College has achieved significantly more success so far this spring season. Through four games, they remain the only undefeated team in the seven-team CISAA division. Lakefield College School also held that title until Saturday, when the Knights defeated them in a 10-7 match-up.
Two more regular season games are in the schedule this week for the Knights, facing off against lower-tier teams while looking to remain perfect. A CISAA championship weekend will follow the season.
