Brooklyn Wodehouse, a freshman at Villanova College in King City, demonstrated just how much of a powerhouse she is in the pool last week with her top eight finishes at this year’s 2015 OFSAA Provincial Swimming Championships held on March 3-4 at the Etobicoke Olympium.
Brooklyn had outstanding swims all week, earning her way into the A Final (top 8) for both of her individual events during the preliminary heats. During the finals for the U16 Women’s 100-metre Individual Medley, Brooklyn came from behind to finish 7th with a lifetime personal best of 1:19.89.
Her most outstanding performance of the meet was definitely in the U16 Women’s 50-metre Breaststroke, where she broke the 39-second mark in prelims, a feat in and of itself, and followed it up with a hard-fought 3rd place finish.
Brooklyn’s accomplishments are even more noteworthy given that this is her first season as a competitive swimmer. While Brooklyn has experience as a synchronized swimmer with the Granite Swim Club, this was her first season testing the competitive swimming waters.
At the start of the season, she was not under the OFSAA qualification standard but she managed to shave over 4 seconds off her time in the 50-metre Breastroke earning her a spot at the provincial competition.
Brooklyn’s success is a direct result of her dedication and positive attitude making her a cherished teammate with a bright future in the world of competitive swimming.
