Plasa steals the show in shutout over rival Aurora squad

NobleKing goaltender Matthew Plasa was stellar in the minor bantam A Knights 2-0 win over the Aurora Tigers Saturday.

In what was mostly a goaltenders’ battle at the Nobleton rec. centre on Saturday afternoon, the Knights’ Matthew Plasa came out on top for his team.
Facing cross-town rivals the Aurora Tigers, NobleKing was looking to rebound from a tough 4-1 loss at the hands of the Tigers one night earlier on the road.
With both goaltenders maintaining a scoreless tie late in the first period, the Knights got on the board first when a nice deke to the backhand faked out the Aurora netminder to put NobleKing up 1-0.
Plasa was put to work just a few minutes later, making a nice stop on a wrist shot from the top of the slot, then denying the rebound opportunity as well.
Aurora’s offence continued to put on the pressure for the remainder of the period as the entire final minute was spent in the Knights’ end.
Much of the same continued into the second frame, as Plasa denied shot after shot to hold onto the goose egg.
The Knights forwards recognized their goaltender’s strong play and rewarded him with a nice 2-on-1, just staying out of the net as the puck came to a stop under the Aurora goalie’s pads.
Heading into the third grasping onto the 1-0 lead, the shots were still raining on Plasa. His defence also worked hard to limit the chances, highlighted by a nice defensive play by NobleKing’s Brown on a 2-on-1, where his dive to block the passing line ended the scoring chance.
Later with Brown in the box for roughing, the Knights would give Plasa some breathing room shorthanded, as a wraparound found the back of the Aurora net to double the Knights’ lead.
With time running out, Plasa put the topper on a fantastic outing by making an unbelievable diving save with his glove on a cross-crease opportunity.
