The King City Royals came home with a silver medal from the first-ever Kia Cup tournament.

The King City Royals 1999 Girls team took part in the first-ever Kia Cup and gain a silver medal.
Royals lost in a heart-breaking 1-0 game against Whitby in the championship game of the first inaugural KIA cup tournament, held Labour Day weekend.
The 2014 KIA Cup Soccer Tournament took place in Downsview, at the beautiful new turf fields beside the “Hangar.”
The final game was played on the adjoining Toronto FC’s practice turf, Limonta Field, complete with running commentary and top-notch officiating.
The Royals vaulted their way to the finals, decisively beating Richmond Hill 2-0 (penalty kicks); Ottawa International 2-0 and the undefeated Erin Mills team, 2-1.
The semi-final game showcased King City’s relentless determination in a convincing 3-0 win over Dixie.
A corner-kick header in the first few minutes of the final game against Whitby put King City behind, and despite heroic efforts on the part of many of the Royals players, no answering goal was forthcoming.
The King City Royals walked away with second place, earning them $1,500 to contribute to a worthy charity, and another $1,500 to put towards clothing and equipment for the team.
It was a successful way to end the summer!
