King City’s own Olympian Rosie MacLennan took to the court at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Monday, showcasing her slam-dunk skills with the help of Toronto Raptor Greivis Vasquez.
The stunt was part of a massive event to promote ticket sales for the 2015 Pan American Games.
Hosted by Mike “Pinball” Clemons, MacLennan was also joined by local sporting celebrities such as Wendel Clark, Dwayne De Rosario, and cyclist Curt Harnett.
Along with her fellow ambassadors, Maclennan took the stage urging people to reserve tickets for Pan Am Games events next year in Toronto.
Maclennan, who won Canada’s only gold medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, said an event like this can be a “life-changing experience” for young athletes.
“Watching my teammate and good friend Karen (Cockburn) earn her spots to the Olympic Games live, that was the most inspiring thing as a young kid,” she said. “And that kept my dream alive, kept me pushing, so ten years later, I was right there next to her.”
She said she was excited to put in her own ticket requests for the Games.
“There are so many events I’d love to see, like wakeboarding is one, and I also love to watch my friends and teammates compete.”
MacLennan was fresh off a trip to Belarus for the last World Cup event of 2014, where she earned a first-place finish in synchro with training partner and Aurora-born Samantha Sendel.
She swiftly earned her position at the 2015 Games this season, currently reigning as world trampoline champion and is a three-time national champion.
General sale is scheduled to start in December. For ticket information, visit www.toronto2015.org.
