The King City Royals 1999 girls entered the prestigious Ontario Cup this year with high expectations.
Their journey began on June 14 where they hosted the Ontario Cup Tournament Round consisting of five teams – Ajax FC Red, Kitchener Spirit, Brampton Brams United Warriors, Niagara Chaos and King City Royals. The Royals dominated their division scoring 20 goals and only allowing a single goal.
This year was a very special year for the U15 division of the Ontario Cup. The eight division winners punched their ticket into the Ontario Summer Games. These games were a thrill to be part of. They featured some of the best athletes in the province from all individual and team sports. The winner of this tournament round would be declared Ontario Cup Champions.
Eight teams were split into two divisions. The winner of each division would compete for the gold medal and become Ontario Cup Champions.
The Royals were grouped together with some familiar yet formidable foes – Georgetown Mustangs, North London Galaxy, Thunder Bay Chill and King City. The girls won their division winning two games and tying one while scoring 12 goals and allowing only three. This guaranteed the girls a berth in the gold medal game.
The girls ended their journey with a hard-fought battle against Hamilton Saltfleet Explosion. The final losing score of 3-0 really didn’t tell the story as the girls held a large possession advantage throughout the game. A disappointing loss but a proud moment in the history of the team nevertheless.
Congratulations on bringing home the silver medal!
