More than two dozen teams from the region’s leading businesses, community and the public sector, will beat drums and splash the water with their paddles at the 11th Annual Toromont CAT Dragon Boat Festival in support of United Way York Region.
The event takes place Saturday, Aug. 16 at King’s Seneca College campus on Dufferin. It kicks off with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m., followed by races and family fun activities.
United Way will also report progress to-date on In Every Neighbourhood – a commitment to raise $30 million in three years and provide 325,000 United Way helping hands, so York Region residents get the support they need close to home.
Now in its 11th year, the Toromont CAT Dragon Boat Festival is United Way’s signature event. In addition to dragon boat races, there will be beach volleyball, a children’s village and other fun activities throughout the day.
Toromont CAT returns as the event’s title sponsor for the seventh year in a row. Thanks also to our platinum level sponsors – Acklands-Grainger Inc., IBM Canada Ltd. and Seneca College; our gold sponsor State Farm® Canada, and silver sponsor MMM Group Limited. These organizations are committed to improving the quality of life for York Region residents.
United Way York Region serves nine municipalities: Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan and Whitchurch-Stouffville. In addition to its traditional role of supporting agencies to meet urgent needs, United Way is working to tackle the root causes of social issues. To help strengthen York Region’s quality of life, United Way is uniting people and resources on three priorities: moving people from poverty to possibility, helping kids be all they can be, and building strong neighbourhoods.
