Roundabouts work

October 29, 2013   ·   0 Comments

Traffic circles provide a continuing flow of traffic and also a calming effect on the speed of traffic.
Traffic lights are an impediment to traffic flow and tend to increase speeding of cars, with the “get through the light before it changes” approach.
Apparently, there was a study stating “drivers, in general, spend two days of their life sitting at red lights.” True or not, it often appears we are sitting at a red light with no traffic going in the opposite direction. Most of us have had the experience!
We are continuing to live with traffic gridlock more and more.
Interesting is that in the Ancaster area, there are several traffic circles and in Peel Region, there is one on Olde Base Line Road in Caledon, and they work!
Look at the UK where traffic is a much greater problem. They use traffic circles extensively and they work. Why? Because there is courtesy on the road!
The problem with having traffic circles here in Canada is that we have so many drivers with a “me first” attitude!
Welcome to more traffic lights and increased traffic gridlock!
