King City’s new skateboard park is going to be buzzing on June 15 for the “King of the Bowl Jam” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the annual King City Festival.
Fourstar Clothing is sponsoring the event, which will feature an afternoon of skateboard, giveaways and music at the new park.
Jon Bell, King’s recreation coordinator, community programs and special events, said it’s nice to finally be able to celebrate the opening of the new skateboard park.
“For the past three years we’ve done the King City Festival and the first two years actually helped to raise money for the skateboard park and so it’s pretty exciting because this is the first year that we will actually have the skateboard park,” he said. “We’ve been raising money, it was built last year (finished in November) and this is the first chance to celebrate our new skateboard park.”
Bell said a lot of people are excited for the bowl feature and it is a big draw for skateboarding enthusiasts from all over the GTA.
“I’ve been told that King Township has one of the best bowls in Ontario, which is pretty cool. Just because of the nature of the skateboard park, that bowl is a cool thing and because of that the skateboarder community has reached out.”
This includes the event sponsor Fourstar, a company that specializes in skateboards and skateboard apparel.
There will be lots of prizes, music and competitions that will be opened up to all ages. Anybody who wants to participate can register on the day of.
Bell also said there will be a “high caliber of skaters” at the event representing Fourstar, which has helped create some buzz surrounding the event.
“There has definitely been a buzz surrounding it. We even have some shops in Toronto that are promoting it as well and I hope that the skateboard is just jammed on the day of.”
The new skateboard park is located right beside the King City arena at 25 Doctors Lane.
