King Township backed a move by Capital Power Corporation to build a long-term battery storage system. King passed a motion recently, to supports the development, construction, and operation of the Long-Term Reliability Project on Capital’s lands on Dufferin Street.

Township notes concerns with Bill 23 to Province

A move to get more homes built across the province will add significant financial and regulatory burdens on local municipalities. King Township staff noted their concerns with Bill 23, the More Homes Built Faster Act. While intended to address the housing crisis by adding 1.5 million homes over the next 10 years, the move will saddle municipalities with extra costs.

‘Bold’ action by Province to build more homes receives strong reaction

The Province is tackling the housing shortage with “bold” action to build more homes. But opponents say it will impede local land use planning, and adversely affect our green spaces. The Ontario government, last week, introduced the More Homes Built Faster Act, which addresses the housing crisis by building 1.5 million homes over the next 10 years.

Villanova featured in Netflix film

A special location in King can be easily identified in an upcoming film on Netflix. 13: The Musical was partially shot at Villanova College near King City recently. According to a Netflix spokesperson, the exterior scenes of Evan’s school in Walkerton, Indiana were filmed at Villanova College, an independent school for elementary to high school aged students.

Team-based care needed to solve shortages

Not having a family doctor could very well mean the difference between life and death. What’s desperately needed is a team-based care approach to health care in this province. Bolton physician Dr. Michael Gagnon explained Ontarians are suffering from the lack of proper care, largely due to a lack of general practitioners.

Volunteers join Kingbridge on National Tree Day

A group of passionate volunteers joined forces at The Kingbridge Centre to celebrate National Tree Day Sept. 21 by planting 1,000 trees in just three hours. The morning’s activities were led by Sheepdog Carbon, a portfolio company within the Kingbridge Innovation Hub that is operated by Canadian veterans. The event brought together volunteers from Seneca College, Climate Action King, The King Chamber, King Township and The Kingbridge team.

Former KCSS students inducted into Case of Distinction

Since its inception in 2003, King City Secondary School Case of Distinction Induction Ceremony finally returned following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The ceremony, which took place at King City Secondary School Saturday morning, honoured four KCSS alumni, who have gone on to accomplish incredible feats in their professional careers. President of the KCSS Alumni Association, John Peddle, began the ceremony welcoming all guests into the school’s front foyer where all guests gathered.
