The Schomberg Cougars made a flurry of changes behind the bench and in management for this upcoming season. With their announcement coming over Twitter, the Cougars re-welcomed Sandy Bell to the club to be their new assistant general manager.
Ontario residents will have to show proof of vaccination if they want to enter certain facilities. As of Sept. 22, Ontarians will have to provide proof to enter sports venues, bars, restaurants and other indoor facilities. The provincial government made the move to confront the Delta-driven fourth wave of COVID-19. Anti-vax protestors have stepped over the line, converging in front of King-Vaughan MPP Stephen Lecce’s home. For several days over the past week or, a group of verbally abusive citizens rallied outside his residence, making things uncomfortable and unsafe for him and his neighbours. The group seems to believe the COVID vaccination is a “global conspiracy.”
The Province has stepped up and is supporting economic development in King. King-Vaughan MPP Stephen Lecce announced last week that the Schomberg Downtown Revitalization Strategy will receive up to $69,702 in funding through Ontario’s Rural Economic Development (RED) program. The Schomberg Downtown Revitalization Strategy will attract investments, businesses, and local partners that will diversify the local economy, bring jobs into the community, and provide easier access to services for local residents.
A federal Conservative government will curb all forms of animal abuse, according to Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives. Using King’s renowned Dog Tales Animal Sanctuary and Rescue facility as a backdrop, O’Toole said his government plans to ban puppy mills, end abuse and violence against animals, and protect the humans who care for them.

Apprehension and “urban legends” may be hindering younger people from stepping up and getting the COVID-19 vaccination. York Public Health is encouraging everyone to opt-in to the vaccination campaign.
King Township is re-opening more of its facilities and amenities this week and offering more Township services available for in-person appointments. “Township staff are always reviewing when and how to safely re-open amenities or continue programming under public health guidelines. As we re-open, the Township is taking every precaution to ensure the safety and protection of our community and staff,” said Mayor Steve Pellegrini.
A huge team effort led to the success of the COVID-19 vaccination, held at the Trisan Centre in Schomberg. In its months of operation, the centre staff administered thousands of shots. The highest one-day total was estimated at 1,787. The clinic was boosted by Township staff, members of King Fire and Emergency services, and a large contingent of local volunteers. Mayor Steve Pellegrini made regular visits to the clinic to offer his support.
Getting kids back in the classroom this September is the priority. And the provincial government is ensuring it will be a safe, “more normal” transition to in-class learning. Education Minister and King-Vaughan MPP Stephen Lecce said they’ve done their due diligence and have followed health advice all through the pandemic. Medical experts agree that getting students back to school, and opening up extra-curricular activities is the best approach.
