Traffic safety leads resident to run for Ward 3 seat

Addressing traffic safety is one of the goals of a Ward 3 candidate.
John Workman is taking on incumbent Linda Pabst. His main reason is the concerns over safety.
Presently there are a lot of secondary and main road intersections that need traffic lights, he said.
“My involvement in horse racing got me very interested in politics the last couple of years. I think I can bring a lot of common sense and good judgement to King council,” he said.
The gravel roads need to be maintained more frequently. He also believes we need traffic lights at the 11th Concession and King Road. The Township also has to be careful where we are going with population density. “I want to live in King Township not Brampton,” he observed.
Workman, if elected, vows to respond to residents’ concerns and questions. He’s a man of “hard work and follow up.
“I would bring vast decision making experience and sound fiscal judgement to the council,” he added.
Workman lauds the democratic system, noting it’s amazing that an ordinary, hard-working citizen could actually be involved in shaping our township’s destiny.
“People need to realize that politicians are not special or privileged, they are just people and they need to behave accordingly.”
Workman’s roots run deep in the community.
He father was the Nobleton Postmaster from 1966 to 1985 and he’s lived in King for 45 years.  He’s a farmer and the steward of 600 King Township acres that he farms.
“I have a passion for the excitement and thrill of thoroughbred horse racing and I own two horses that race at Woodbine Race Track.”
He’s helped raise two daughters and a stepson who all went to  the same King Township schools that he attended.
Workman lives with his spouse Maria Simpson, who suffers from cerebral palsy.  In the 12 years they’ve been together, Workman said he’s come to understand and appreciate the issues that those with disabilities face.
“I will work hard to make King Township more accessible,” he said.
