Resident wins big in ShopKing campaignJoining winner Bonnie Rapus from Lloydtown are Councillor Bill Cober, Mayor Steve Pellegrini, Foodland owner Rocco Macri and Councillor Debbie Schaefer. A King Township resident has 500 reasons to celebrate. Bonnie Rapus, of Lloydtown, won the $500 grocery gift certificate, as the winner of the ShopKing survey contest. She was randomly chosen from the more than 600 people who completed the survey. The survey was designed to find out what shopping and service needs were already being met in King and which ones required residents to shop outside the township. “Although we're going to need some time to analyze the results, I'm pleased with the response the survey generated,” said Mayor Steve Pellegrini. “It's always better to make decisions based on good data and we'll be able to use the results of the survey as we work with the local business community on ways to keep people shopping in King Township.” The survey was a direct outcome of the village revitalization forum held late last year. The King Township Economic Development officer met with key business stakeholders from King City, Nobleton and Schomberg, who were asked about their villages. One of the items discussed was how to better understand the goods and services needs of King Township residents. “Listening to local business owners and then taking action to help them better understand local shopping habits is a good example of how we can work together to grow King Township's economy,” said Jamie Smyth, economic development officer for King Township. Apart from the grand prize, there were also three weekly prizes of $25 Tim Hortons gift cards awarded, one each for residents in or close to King City, Nobleton or Schomberg. Survey results can be reported with a 95% confidence level and a +/- 5% margin of error. Full results will be made available soon. “I shop here at the Schomberg Foodland all the time. The produce is terrific, and Rocco really cares about his customers,” Rapus said. As an aside, Bonnie recounted a story about when her mother had just moved to Schomberg. A friend came by and gave her flowers, and her mother did not have a vase. So she went to Foodland to try to buy one. Unfortunately the store did not sell vases, but Rocco went and found one in the office and gave it to her. “That's the kind of guy Rocco is,” said Pellegrini. “We are exceptionally lucky to have such caring people in our community, as well as such an excellent supermarket.” “I feel very honoured that Bonnie chose Foodland for her $500 grocery gift card. We work very hard to serve the needs of our customers,” said Rocco Macri, store owner. “It's terrific that the ShopKing survey winner was from my ward, and it couldn't happen to a nicer person than Bonnie,” said Councillor Bill Cober. After the presentation, Bonnie headed off to put a dent in her new gift card. The first item n her list was chocolate almond milk. |
