Villanova basketball leads the pack into playoffsThe Villanova Knights are top dogs in the CISAA D1B basketball league, heading into next week's playoffs. By Jake Courtepatte For the second year in a row, the Villanova Knights have put together one of the most dominant teams in CISAA (Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association) men's basketball. With a 72-54 win over Holy Trinity School on home court Monday, the Knights second-highest points total of the season, the team has hit double digits in their winning streak. Taking every game since the season opener in November, the Knights 10-1 record is both tops in the West division of D1 B basketball and the entire conference, with one game left on the regular season following press-time. They closed out their regular season Wednesday on the road against Appleby College (5-6). The Knights are currently up two points on Upper Canada College in Toronto for the lead in the West division, and will earn a bye into the CISAA championship in early March. Hoping to follow the footsteps of their older counterparts are the junior Knights, who finished in a three-way tie for first in the West division of the junior D2 conference (6-1) and will need three wins to secure a championship. Their postseason run also begins in early March, starting with a visit to Crestwood Preparatory College. Rounding out the list is the U-14 squad, still looking to book their postseason ticket following a heartbreaking 39-37 loss to Holy Trinity School on Monday. The Knights sit two points out of a playoff position, a 5-5 record with one game remaining against Sterling Hall School. For stats and schedules, check out www.cisaa.ca. |
