By Jake Courtepatte With the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church moved out of their old location at 13456 Dufferin Street in King City, the old-school charm of the centuries-old building remained unused. Modern branding and sales met history and tradition earlier this year when real estate giant Engel & Volkers moved an office into the building, part of a transition of the German-based company into the Canadian market. “It was the unique qualities of the area that brought it into consideration,” said Jorg Hermanns, owner of the new York Region branch. “King is such a diverse area with diverse needs … and we can meet them with the amount of public and private schools in the area, one right across the road from this building in Country Day School.” Built in 1848, the stone construction of the building is representative of the Scottish influence of the area and the common use of fieldstone as building material. The old hardwood floors add to the historic charm of the building, coinciding with the modern furniture and monitors that fill the rooms. “It's a beautiful building,” said councilor Debbie Schaefer. “There's a lot of history behind it.” It was dedicated as a heritage site by the Ontario Heritage Act in 1984. Engel & Volkers will service the King, Aurora, Newmarket, and Caledon area, an expansive amount of listings ranging from bungalows to horse farms.
