Cougars dumped by Otters in second straight meetingBy Jake Courtepatte It was deja-vu Thursday night when the Schomberg Cougars hosted the Huntsville Otters, and not in the Cougars' favour. Having lost to the Otters 5-4 on the road last Friday, they repeated the score at the Trisan Centre after a comeback effort came up just short. Playing catch-up all game and down 5-3 in the final five minutes, Kiefer McIntosh brought the Cougars within one to try to spark a late rally. But a barrage of shots on net couldn't get past the Otters' Connor Christianson, who held on for the 5-4 win. McIntosh was the bright spot in the Schomberg lineup, earning a hat trick and totaling six points over his last four games. Evan Woodhead scored the Cougars' only other goal, while Martin Lauzon stopped 29 of the 34 shots he faced in the loss. Tanner Smith earned three assists in the game. Snared in a recent losing skid, the Cougars are falling out of relevance in the middle of the Georgian Mid-Ontario Hockey League pack. The team has won only one of their last six games, holding onto a 4-7-1 record. They currently sit tied for second-last in the league with the Caledon Golden Hawks. Schomberg will be looking to turn their luck around on Thursday when they host the Penetang Kings at the Trisan Centre, who sit just three points up on the Cougars in league standings. Puck drop is at 8:30p.m. They hit the road Sunday to face Caledon at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Cougars are hosting their annual community fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Schomberg Shell on the corner of Hwy. 9 and Hwy. 27. Aside from the opportunity to meet the Cougars players, guests can meet and greet various farm animals, as well as Jimmy the Clydesdale. Jumping castles, candy, and prizes will be available for the kids. For stats, schedules, and more information, visit www.schombergcougars.com. |
